KANYE WEST X ADIDAS

As I’m sure that you are all aware of, Kanye West has collaborated with Adidas, creating an interesting collection relating to sportswear.

Before the show West had a voice-over which simply stated – “I’m here to crack the pavement, I want to create something better for you” but has he? The collection itself took 18 months to create and staged it with Italian performance artist Vanessa Beecoft. The selected 50 models were of all shapes and sizes, all of which appear in flesh-toned body stockings, were positioned in a military form which is a signature of Beecrofts work. With each military line of models and designs there would be a long single tone of music where they would stand and occasionally yawn, at the end of the tone the line of model would rotate and exit in a military form.

The show itself I thought was a create format as the works of Beecroft managed to intertwine with the concept of West's designs. However saying this I do prefer the thought process of the show than I do of the designs. Saying this the collection itself genuinely looks like West's wardrobe and with the reputation that he has of his opinion could this collection be his way of telling us that we should all look and dress like him??



     

The colour scheme for this collection was very neutral with earthy tones, colours that West himself wears a lot of. 

HOWEVER!

There was this one particular piece that stuck out the most (in my opinion) and that was this red and orange ensemble.  The over sized and slightly distressed top was hung over the top of bright orange tights and pair with red hot ankle boots. The model her self had red ombre hair which went with the contrasts of the garments. This ensemble was probably the brightest part of the collection, with this being mixed in with the neutural and earthy tones this ensemble made the collection more appealing as the other garments seemed to be the same thing every time. 

3 books 1 journey

My personal artwork is influenced by capturing what I feel at particular time. Most of it is captured when I'm down, through having anxiety attacks, the classic boyfriend break ups, family troubles. Everything and anything that could possibly get you down. And today I am going to show what the outcomes of these type of emotions, and how they influence my work.




My set for drawing usually entails me sitting in my room with just my lamp on and in my bed with  a cup of tea. No music and no TV, just myself and my book. What ever I feel, what ever is going through my mind, happy or sad it goes straight in to my book. For the past two year I have done this and I have completed two books of my personal drawings. Some drawings are good and some are hard to look at but when I look through them now I find it fun to look like. It's almost like looking at a book of your life, a diary about your year, what you've done. A journey. My journey! And when I look at my work I feel like that I have traveled so far and it shows in my work.



 


There is no theme into what I create because it can go in any direction. The most material that I use is pen but every now and again I will choose water colour or pencil but again this depends on what I feel like using at the time. With the outcome of my drawings... Well that's not in my control. Half the time I don't start with an outline, I just put pen to paper and just do it. Anything I want is on that paper and the pen does what I want to do because the work is mine and mine only, I'm in control of the pen and it does what I want it to do. However sometimes when the emotions changes throughout the process of drawing, the outcome can change in itself. And that's why the some of the outcomes can have a slight mix of being gentle and being aggressive. 

Keeping a book of what I have done is also a remind of how I have progressed as an artist, my progression on my skills. I am currently on my third book and I honestly can't wait for my journey with this third book. And I hope that you have enjoyed a little look at my work.

House Of Malakai

Instagram is probably one of my favorite places to find new and creative things like Malakia.

Looking at some of his work and his bio it is noted that he is a self taught artist who comes from Bali.
He started with hard jewelry and decor in 1999. Malakai started the lable 'House Of Malakai' in 2013 which allowed him to express his artistic style and develop them into dramatic styles. The brand focuses on accessories and head wear, which has been supported by celebrities such as Beyonce and Rihanna.

His work pays particular attention to detail and a combination of hand craft and modern digital craftsmanship.

It is said that his influences are from high fashion, science and underground movements.

His work in my point of view is sex, edgy, inspirational and dramatic. Some of his work can look alienated and very artistic. With the photographs he hasn't just thought about the presentation of the accessory but the placement and the story of the image would tell. It is this that shows the artistic flare in the designs as well as the designs themselves.
His work is very inspirational and will come in use for future research and design ideas.

Each time I go through House Of Malakai there is never a dull moment with his designs. The daring edginess that he provides in his design is what makes it so enjoyable for me. some of his designs can have a theatrical feel like the following images.

          

It's what I love so much about HOM. House Of Malakai has influenced me in ways that I could help me improve my designs, designing more theatrical ideas, being more daring with my work as well as my style and to over step the boundaries a little more.

As this is a new blog I will be post regular every week on a Friday or when possible during the week. I will be updating you on projects like my current 'Moulage' and I will be posting my inspirations.
