BLACK BEAUTY - PORTFOLIO DEVELOPMENT

So today I thought that I Would do an update on some of the work that I have been doing for portfolio development, Black Beauty.

I am just about finished with the sketchbook and have finally started garment construction. The design for my garment is and evening gown with a veil that includes two arm holes, the fabrics that I have chosen for these my final garment are light black denim with a raised felt for the pattern and a silk chiffon for the veil. The concept of my theme is represented well within my design as my theme is beauty within the darkness, in this case the beauty is that dress and the darkness is the chiffon veil.

The design

For my designer research I looked into the likes off Stephane Rolland,Zuhair Murad and Zac Posen. I found some of there designs and collection most inspiring as they have influenced me to design garments that would represent my theme.

(The design development boards represent the other designs that I have created will be up shortly)

Next post I will go in further detail with my design development and more about the influential imagery that is represented.
In the mean time feel free to check out my instagram (Displayed on the blog) which show some of the work that I post on there and other related work and the black beauty board on pinterest.

KANYE WEST X ADIDAS

As I’m sure that you are all aware of, Kanye West has collaborated with Adidas, creating an interesting collection relating to sportswear.

Before the show West had a voice-over which simply stated – “I’m here to crack the pavement, I want to create something better for you” but has he? The collection itself took 18 months to create and staged it with Italian performance artist Vanessa Beecoft. The selected 50 models were of all shapes and sizes, all of which appear in flesh-toned body stockings, were positioned in a military form which is a signature of Beecrofts work. With each military line of models and designs there would be a long single tone of music where they would stand and occasionally yawn, at the end of the tone the line of model would rotate and exit in a military form.

The show itself I thought was a create format as the works of Beecroft managed to intertwine with the concept of West's designs. However saying this I do prefer the thought process of the show than I do of the designs. Saying this the collection itself genuinely looks like West's wardrobe and with the reputation that he has of his opinion could this collection be his way of telling us that we should all look and dress like him??

The colour scheme for this collection was very neutral with earthy tones, colours that West himself wears a lot of.

HOWEVER!

There was this one particular piece that stuck out the most (in my opinion) and that was this red and orange ensemble.  The over sized and slightly distressed top was hung over the top of bright orange tights and pair with red hot ankle boots. The model her self had red ombre hair which went with the contrasts of the garments. This ensemble was probably the brightest part of the collection, with this being mixed in with the neutural and earthy tones this ensemble made the collection more appealing as the other garments seemed to be the same thing every time.

PURCHASES FOR THE SHOOT

For the shoot I opted to look for items that went with the colour of the skirt which was grey.

The items that I found were a grey, thin strapped top, a heavy necklace and a pair of black heels; all from H&M. The shows were an option as they were going to be used to add some height to the model due to the skirt be very long.

The total for these were £47.50 and the items went very well with the skirt I had constructed.

The skirt was displayed in the previous post.

MOULAGE SKIRT

Size - 12
Fabrics - Hard Cotton and Glossed Satin
Colour - Grey

The skirt that I designed and constructed for the moulage project that was set before Christmas.
The skirt was pair with a slim grey top and a heavy designed bracelet to match the natural folds and flow of the skirt.

I have already posted as of how I managed to create this design and which I will link down below. These posts contain research, observational drawing and inspiration

KENDALL JENNER - LOVE MAGAZINE

Kendall Jenner -

Black blazer, long black skirt and clear-heeled shoes all by Versace
Beige seamed fishnet tights by Jonathan Aston;
Black ballet shoes by Bloch
Beige tulle top by Steven Klein

Hair: AKKI Make up: Sammy Mourabit

Kendall Jenner appears to be the latest talk at the moment and especially with these images from Love Magazine. The two main reasons as to why the images are most talked about is due to her breasts. BUT they are prosthetic which enhanced her figure and appear to make her more curvy.
I personally love the fake boobs in those photos, they have made look sexy, raunchy and and quite seductive. With the Versace that she is wear and has been styled Love magazine it most certainly wants to make you look at the images a lot longer. The way that she is positioned in this image in particular has shown a slight dramatic feel to the clothing. The outfit in general appears to be a mix of match between black and beige tulle. With that being said it is also what has made her curvy figure more noted and with her skin being shown in certain areas it gives that seductive feel too it even with her pose, stiff but relaxed.
Black and white imagery is always one of my favorite types of photography which is why I chose this picture as well. If this was in colour/the original print I could of feel different about this image. But with saying that I love the daring appeal that Love magazine has decided to go for with the Versace.
